The Wonders of Epsom Salt

First off, I want to say that Epsom salt is NOT SALT.

I’m sure you have heard of Epsom Salt, right? Did you know that it is not anything like Salt – Salt or Sodium?  Epsom Salt is actually Magnesium.  

Epsom salt baths are amazing for:

*sore muscles

*tired and weak muscles

*constipation

*headaches

*tension

*withdrawals from drugs or caffeine

*sleeplessness

*The list just goes on for this amazing mineral.

What is it exactly and why is it good for you?

The culture nowadays is in a vicious cycle of Magnesium deficiency.  Magnesium is a mineral that is present primarily in green leafy vegetables and nuts but in our society, we don’t consume enough and we are constantly in a state of stress.  Also, stress can cause the body to be acidic which leaches Calcium and Magnesium OUT of the bones thus making us more deficient. And the cycle continues.

Magnesium (Mg) is a natural muscle relaxer and is used in over 300 enzyme systems in the body.  It is so important for good health, just think what could possibly go wrong if you are not getting enough of it?  : / scary to think about, right?  I would recommend eating more of these Magnesium-rich foods but you can also have a good, stress-relieving soak in the tub with some Epsom salt too.

I would recommend buying a product with nothing in it but Magnesium Sulfate and adding your own essential oils to the bath instead of getting a fragranced product.  Lavender oil is my favorite because it has a calming effect on the body and central nervous system.
