Deodorant: Is It Harming You?

Have you ever looked at what is in your deodorant? Is it also an antiperspirant?

Let’s start by talking about sweat. Sweating is a normal body function and one major way for the body to rid itself of toxins, not to mention to cool itself down.

It is very important to let the body do what it’s designed to do for optimum health. I also understand that people don’t want to stink and very much respect that. However, I personally don’t mind when people actually smell like people, especially with modern plumbing and people’s daily bathing habits.

People turn to the aisle of products to make themselves smell good and stop that unsightly sweat by (sadly) using a ton of harmful chemicals and Aluminum. Aluminum has even been linked in multiple studies to Alzheimer’s Disease. (study 1, study 2, study 3, plus 31 more) Furthermore, do you have any idea how they created that smell you like? Newsflash: it’s not as good for you as you might think.

I am here to tell you that there IS light at the end of the tunnel!! It’s inexpensive, good for you in multiple senses of the word, and found in the produce section.

Have any idea what it could be?

LEMONS! Or even limes if you have those!

Yes, a lemon or lime sliced and rubbed on the armpit kills the bacteria that causes you to smell. It’s so amazing, so cheap, and works great! I usually recommend giving it a good 3 days before you really test out the smell by sticking your armpit in the face of someone you love 😉 (not that I have ever done that)

This has been researched and tested on the smelliest of men and it works wonders. It does not stop you from sweating, but it does stop the stink, and its actually good for you – unlike all those chemical-laden deodorants on the market.

I recommend cutting off a slice each day or making an ice cube of the lemon/lime juice, just make sure its labeled so your roommates don’t use your armpit lemon for their food :). If you use the ice cube trick, it doubles as a good wake up if applied in the morning.

Try it out and let me know what you think! This has been such a game-changer to those that I have shared it with and I feel that it will do the same for you.

Happy chemical free day!

  1. I’ve loved the conversations we’ve had about the things we put ON our bodies. Prior to meeting you, I hadn’t thought as thoroughly about this side of my healthy intake as I had about the things I eat. As I’ve tried different deodorants and sunscreens this year based on my conversations with you, I’ve seen a positive difference. I’m ready to try this one as well. Thanks for sharing!
